वानरराज बाली और सुग्रीव दोनों ही भाई थे | बाली किष्किंधा का राजा था तथा इंद्र का पुत्र था | भगवान विष्णु के अवतार श्री राम ने उसका वध करके उसका उद्धार किया तथा वानरलोक में सुग्रीव को राजा बनाकर धर्म की स्थापना में अपना योगदान दिया | बाली की पत्नी का नाम तारा था तथा उसके पुत्र का नाम अंगद था | बाली को अपने पिता इंद्रदेव से एक दिव्य स्वर्णहार प्राप्त हुआ था जो ब्रह्मा जी ने अभिमंत्रित करके इंद्रदेव को दिया था | उस स्वर्ण हार को पहनकर बाली जब भी किसी शत्रु के सामने जाता था तो उसके शत्रु की शक्ति क्षीण हो जाती थी तथा आधी शक्ति बाली को प्राप्त हो जाती थी | बाली भी रावण की तरह ही परम पराक्रमी और बलशाली होने के साथ-साथ अभिमान या दुराचारी था | एक बार उसने तो दुंदुभि नामक राक्षस का वध करके उसके शव को हवा में उछाल कर दूर फेंका | राक्षस शव के रक्त की कुछ बूंदें महर्षि मतंग के आश्रम में गिरी जो ऋषिमुख पर्वत में स्थित था | क्रोधित हो मतंग ऋषि ने बाली को शाप दिया कि उनके आश्रम के एक योजन के दायरे में अगर बाली आएगा तो वह मृत्यु को प्राप्त हो जाएगा| एक बार छली कपटी रावण ने देव मुनि नारद के भड़काने पर बाली पर पीछे से वार किया, किंतु बाली ने रावण को अपनी पूंछ में लपेटकर उसे बगल में दबा दिया तथा विश्व भर में घुमाता रहा ताकि सबको दिखा सकी रावण से डरने की जरूरत नहीं है केवल बाली ही सर्वशक्तिशाली है | रावण ने अपनी हार मानकर बाली से क्षमा मांगी तथा मित्रता का हाथ बढ़ाया और बाली ने स्वीकार कर लिया | इस तरह दोनों दुराचारी और अभिमानी एक हो गए |

दुंदुभि के वध के बाद के कुछ समय बाद उसके भाई मायावी ने बाली को ललकारा | दोनों में घनघोर युद्ध हुआ तथा मायावी खुद को पराजित होता देख भाग खड़ा हुआ , बाली उसे कहां छोड़ने वाला था | बाली भी दौड़ पड़ा उसके पीछे पीछे और सुग्रीव बाली के पीछे पीछे भागे | मायावी राक्षस डरकर एक गुफा में घुस गया तथा बाली ने अपने छोटे भाई सुग्रीव को आदेश दिया कि जब तक मैं बाहर ना आ जाऊं , तुम इस गुफ़ा के द्वार की रखवाली करना| बाली गुफा में राक्षस को मारने चला गया और सुग्रीव अपने बड़े भाई की आज्ञा का पालन करते हुए भाग खड़े रहा | खड़े खड़े सुग्रीव पूरे एक साल तक गुफा के द्वार पर खड़ा इंतजार करता रहा 1फिर एक दिन के गुफा में उसे चीख सुनायी दी तथा रक्त की धारा अंदर से बाहर तक आई , सुग्रीव को लगा की उस मायावी राक्षस ने छल से बाली भैया को मार दिया है| अब अगर मायावी राक्षस बाहर आ गया तो वह भी मारा जाएगा यह सोचकर सुग्रीव ने गुफा का मुंह पत्थर से बंद कर दिया| वापस आकर जब उसने सभी परिवार जनों को यह बात बताई तो सबने उसे किष्किंधा का राजा बन जाने को कहा| राज्याभिषेक के समय ही बाली वापस आ गया और सुग्रीव का राजतिलक होता देख क्रोध में उसे पीटने लगा| सुग्रीव ने बहुत समझाया पर बाली कहां मानने वाला था | बाली ने सुग्रीव को मारने की कोशिश की तो सुग्रीव वहां से भागकर ऋषिमुख पर्वत पर जाकर रहने लगा | मतंग मुनि के शाप के कारण वहां नहीं जा सकता था लेकिन दुराचारी बाली ने सुग्रीव की पत्नी रुमा को जबरदस्ती अपनी पत्नी बना लिया | रावण के समान बाली भी पराई स्त्रियों का हरण कर लेता था उसका वध भी बहुत ही जरूरी था | सुग्रीव ऋषि मुख पर्वत पर अपने कुछ मंत्रियों, हनुमान जी तथा जामवंत आदी के साथ रहने लगे |

When he came back and told this to all the family members, everyone asked him to become the king of Kishkindha. At the time of the coronation, Bali returned and after seeing Sugriva's coronation, he started beating him in anger. Sugriva explained a lot but where was Bali supposed to be? When Bali tried to kill Sugriva, Sugriva ran away from there and started living on Mount Rishimukh. Due to the curse of Matang Muni, he could not go there, but the vicious Bali forced Sugriva's wife Ruma to be his wife. Like Ravan, Bali also killed foreign women, her slaughter was also very important. Sugriva lived with some of his ministers, Hanuman ji and Jamwant Aadi, on the Rishi Mukh mountain.

एक बार मदमस्त हाथी की भांति अपनी शक्ति के मद में चूर बाली वनों में घूम रहा था तब उसने हनुमान जी को देखा जो राम का नाम जाप करने में लगे हुए थे | घमंडी बाली ने हनुमान जी से कहा किस का जप करते रहते हो ,मैं ही सबसे शक्तिशाली हुँ किसी दिन बुला लाओ अपने प्रभु राम को उन्हें भी देखूं लूंगा बस इतना सुनते ही हनुमान जी ने कहा कि पहले प्रभु के भक्त को हरा कर दिखाओ तब उनको ललकारना | तय हुआ की दोनों में युद्ध होगा तो युद्ध के ठीक पहले ब्रह्मा जी हनुमान जी के पास गए और बोले कि आप तो बहुत ही शांतिप्रिय भक्ति में लीन रहने वाले महाबली हो आपको बाली से युद्ध करने की आवश्यकता नहीं, वैसे भी उसके पास स्वर्णहार है जिस से बाली सामने वाले की आधी शक्ति छीन लेता है | हनुमान जी बोले मेरे बारे बाली कुछ कहता तो कोई बात नहीं थी पर उसने मेरे प्रभु के बारे में अपशब्द कहे हैं इस अवस्था में अगर मैंने उसको सबक सिखाया तो मेरे प्रभु और मेरा अपयश होगा | ब्रह्मा देव ने समझ लिया की अब बाली की खैर नहीं और उनके द्वारा अभिमंत्रित स्वर्णहार भी निष्फल ना होजाये | कुछ विचारकर ब्रह्मा जी ने कहा कि आप अपनी शक्ति का दसवां भाग लेकर उसके सामने जाइएगा और तथा बाकी शक्ति अपने प्रभु को अर्पण कर दीजिए| बजरंगबली ने ऐसा ही किया अपनी शक्ति का दसवां भाग अपने प्रभु भगवान् राम को अर्पण करके बाली के सामने पहुंचे | युद्ध शुरू होते ही बाली ने उनकी दसवीं का आधा भाग याने की पांचवा भाग अपने शरीर में खींचना शुरू किया किन्तु बाली हनुमान जी की शक्ति का पांचवा भाग भी सहन न कर सका | हनुमान जी की शक्ति का अंश बाली में प्रविष्ट होते ही उसके शरीर में कंपन होने लगा, नसें फटने सी लगी, सर घूमने लगा तब उसने ब्रह्मा जी को पुकारा कि प्रभु आप का वरदान विफल क्यों हो रहा है? यह मुझे अपनी पीड़ा क्यों हो रही है? आपका वरदान विफल कैसे हो सकता है तब ब्रह्माजी प्रकट हुए उन्होंने अभिमानी बाली को समझाया कि बाली तुम शक्तिशाली होते हुए भी हनुमान जी की शक्ति को धारण नहीं कर सकते उनकी शक्तियां अनंत है| तुम इस योग्य नहीं की हनुमान जी की शक्ति का तिनका भी सह सको वो तो तुम्हारे प्राणों की रक्षा हेतु ही सिर्फ दसवां भाग ही बजरंग बलि धारण किये हुए हैं | अब तुरंत यहां से दूर चले जाओ वरना तुम्हारे प्राण संकट में आ सकते हैं ब्रह्मा जी की बात सुनते ही बाली तुरंत वहां से भाग गया |

किष्किंधा काण्ड के अनुसार भगवान् राम ने बाली के द्वारा प्रताड़ित
सुग्रीव से मित्रता की | प्रभु राम के आश्वासन देने पर वह अपने मित्र की सहायता हेतु बाली का वध करेंगे , सुग्रीव ने बाली को ललकारा | बालि किष्किंधा नगरी के बाहर आया दोनों में घमासान युद्ध हुआ क्योंकि दोनों भाइयों का मुख् तथा शरीर एक सा था इसी असमंजस में श्री राम जी ने बाण नहीं चलाया | बाली से अपनी जान बचाकर सुग्रीव घायलावस्था में प्रभु श्री राम जी के पास गया और बोला प्रभु आपने ऐसा क्यों किया ? श्री राम जी ने जैसे ही सुग्रीव के सर पर हाथ रखा सुग्रीव के सारे जख्म भर गए तथा उसका शरीर फिर से वज्र के समान हो गया | राम जी ने उसको दोबारा से युद्ध के लिए बोला तथा लक्ष्मण जी द्वारा सुग्रीव को पुष्पमाला पहना दी ताकि दोबारा कोई संदेह ना हो | जब बाली ने दोबारा युद्ध सुग्रीव की ललकार सुनी तो उसके क्रोध का ठिकाना ना रहा | सुग्रीव को दोबारा ललकारते हुए जानकर बाली की पत्नी तारा को शंका हुई | तारा को इस बात का आभास हो गया था कि सुग्रीव को राम का संरक्षण हासिल है क्योंकि अकेले तो सुग्रीव बाली को दोबारा लड़ने की हिम्मत कदापि नहीं करता | तारा ने बाली को सावधान किया और उसने कहा कि सुग्रीव को किष्किंधा का युवराज घोषित कर बाली उसके साथ संधि कर ले | किंतु बाली ने सुग्रीव का पक्ष लेने पर तारा को दुत्कार दिया | दोनों भाइयों में द्वंद युद्ध शुरू हुआ लेकिन इस बार राम जी ने दोनों को पहचानने में कोई गलती नहीं करी और बाली पर पेड़ की ओट से बाण चला दिया | बाण ने बाली के हृदय को भेद दिया तथा बाली धराशाई होकर जमीन पर गिर गया गया | भगवान राम ने बाली पर छुपकर बाण चलाया और बाली को यह बात अनुचित लगी तब बाली ने उनसे कारण पूछा |

Tara cautioned Bali and he said that by declaring Sugriva as the crown prince of Kishkindha, Bali should make a treaty with him. But Bali rebuked Tara for favoring Sugriva. Duel war started between the two brothers, but this time Ram ji made no mistake in identifying both and fired an arrow with a tree on the earring. Baan pierced Bali's heart and Bali fell and fell to the ground. Lord Rama hid the arrow on Bali and Bali found this to be inappropriate, then Bali asked him the reason.

(यहाँ वास्तव में प्रभु नहीं जताना चाहते की वह कौन हैं उनका विचार था की यदि इंद्र का वरदान मेरे सामने आने पर विफल हो जाता इसलिए मेरा सामने ना आना ही उचित है )

प्रभु श्री राम :- जो खुद किसी और की पत्नी का हरण और परायी स्त्रियों के साथ अनाचार करता हो उससे मैं अपनी पत्नी को पानी के लिए सहायता कैसे मांग सकता हूँ | रावण की भाँती तुम भी पथभ्रष्ट हो ऐसा मैं समझता हूं एक अधर्मी का साथ में कभी नहीं दे सकता ना ही उसका साथ ले सकता हूँ | सुग्रीव भले ही तुम्हारी तरह बलशाली नहीं किन्तु उसने कभी धर्म आचरण नहीं छोड़ा तो उससे तुम्हारी तुलना व्यर्थ है |
Prabhu Shri Ram: - How can I ask my wife for help from someone who herself abducts someone else's wife and abuses them with foreign women. Like Ravan, you too are misguided, I understand that you can never support a wrongdoer or take him along. Even though Sugriva is not as powerful as you, but he has never given up his religious conduct, your comparison with him is meaningless.

विष्णु जी के अवतार राम जी ने वास्तव में बाली का वध करके उद्धार किया था | यहाँ तक की प्रभु ने अपने अगले अवतार में बाली को अवसर दिया की वह उनकी इसी प्रकार हत्या कर सके | द्वापर युग में भगवान् राम ने श्री कृष्ण के रूप में जन्म लिया तथा बाली ने भील रूप में उनकी हत्या की इस प्रकार भगवान हमें बताते हैं की मृत्युलोक में अपने कर्मो का फल भोगना ही पड़ता है तथा कर्मफल से मुक्ति का उपाए भगवान् के पास भी नहीं| कर्म चक्र सदा समय के चक्र समान चलता रहता है मनुष्य अपने वर्तमान जन्म में किये गए पाप को अपने अगले जन्म में या जन्मो में भुगतता ही है | यही विधि का विधान है इसलिए तो इस संसार में कर्मजाल से मुक्ति का कोई उपाय नहीं इसलिए भगवान् ने भगवद गीता में यही कहा है की कर्म किये जाओ और फल की चिंता में ना सोचो |

In the Dwapar Yuga, Lord Rama was born as Shri Krishna and Bali killed him in a Bhil form, thus God tells us that one has to bear the fruits of our deeds in the land of death and God does not even have the means to get rid of the results. The cycle of Karma goes on like the cycle of time, man always suffers the sin committed in his present life in his next life or in his births. This is the law of the law, so there is no way to get rid of the work in this world, therefore God has said in the Bhagavad-gītā that go do the deeds and do not think about the fruits.
